Less water, better lungs? new trial aims to protect preemies
NCT ID NCT06954142
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests if giving very premature babies (born before 30 weeks) slightly less fluid (135 mL per kg per day) compared to a standard amount (165 mL per kg per day) can prevent bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), a chronic lung disease. About 750 babies will be enrolled across multiple hospitals. The goal is to see if this simple change in care reduces BPD or death by 36 weeks corrected age.
