Your body clock may reveal depression risk before symptoms start

NCT ID NCT07388849

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study follows 160 adults in Hong Kong over time to see if disruptions in daily activity and sleep (rest-activity rhythms) can predict who develops major depressive disorder. Participants will wear activity monitors and complete questionnaires about mood and sleep. The goal is to identify patterns that signal depression risk, which could lead to earlier detection and intervention.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help identify people at risk for depression based on their daily activity and sleep patterns, enabling earlier support.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It cannot prove cause and effect, and the results may not apply to people outside Hong Kong.
