Breathing training may boost recovery after bariatric surgery
NCT ID NCT07289958
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a program of breathing muscle training and exercise can improve lung function, exercise capacity, and sleep in people who recently had bariatric surgery. Researchers will enroll 52 adults aged 18 to 60. Participants will do supervised breathing exercises and physical training for 12 weeks. The goal is to see if this approach helps with common post-surgery issues like poor exercise tolerance and sleep apnea.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
respiratory muscle training and exercise program
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple, drug-free way to improve breathing, exercise ability, and sleep quality after bariatric surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with no placebo group, so results may not be conclusive. The training requires commitment and may not benefit everyone.
