Could a smartwatch replace a hospital stay after gastric bypass?
NCT ID NCT07483775
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This pilot study tests whether patients having laparoscopic gastric bypass can safely go home the same day if they use a remote monitoring device. Forty adults will be randomly assigned to either same-day discharge with remote monitoring or an overnight hospital stay. The study will check if this approach is feasible, safe, and cost-effective, and how it affects quality of life.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
remote clinical monitoring device
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that remote monitoring is a safe and cost-effective way to let patients go home the same day after weight-loss surgery, reducing hospital burden.
What could go wrong
This is a very small pilot study (40 people) testing feasibility, not effectiveness. It may not prove safety or work in larger, more diverse groups.
