New toothpaste may stop whitening pain
NCT ID NCT07506850
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether special pastes containing CPP-ACP and fluoride could reduce tooth sensitivity after in-office bleaching. 64 adults received either a paste with CPP-ACP and sodium fluoride, CPP-ACP and stannous fluoride, or a placebo before and after whitening. Pain was measured over 72 hours. The goal is to find a way to make whitening more comfortable without reducing its effectiveness.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
CPP-ACP combined with sodium fluoride or stannous fluoride paste
What this could lead to
If it works, dentists may have a proven way to reduce pain after teeth whitening, making the procedure more comfortable.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial with 64 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The pastes might not reduce sensitivity better than a placebo.
