First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether varenicline (Chantix), a drug used to help people quit smoking, can reduce falls in people with Parkinson's disease. About 102 participants will take either varenicline or a placebo for one year. Researchers will measure changes in walking speed while multitasking and track the number of falls.

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a treatment to reduce falls and improve walking safety in people with Parkinson's disease.
