New telehealth service aims to curb opioid addiction in veterans after surgery

Summary
This study tests whether a telehealth pain management program can help veterans who have surgery outside VA hospitals avoid becoming dependent on opioids long-term. About 400 veterans having orthopedic surgery will either get the program or standard care. The goal is to see if the program reduces opioid use past 90 days after surgery.
