Can a quick puff of air after suctioning keep ICU patients' lungs open?

NCT ID NCT07358039

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 08, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a brief increase in airway pressure (called a recruitment maneuver) after suctioning helps restore lung volume in ICU patients on ventilators. About 32 adults will be enrolled, and each will act as their own control, receiving both the maneuver and no maneuver in random order. The goal is to see if the maneuver improves lung aeration, measured with a non-invasive imaging technique called electrical impedance tomography.
