New electric probe aims to catch hidden cancer cells during prostate removal
NCT ID NCT06039085
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a custom electrical impedance probe that measures tissue properties during prostate removal surgery. The goal is to see if it can instantly detect any cancer left behind, helping surgeons remove it all in one go. Two hundred men with prostate cancer will take part, and the device's safety and accuracy will be tracked.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Electrical Impedance Imaging (EII) probe
What this could lead to
If successful, this device could help surgeons remove all cancer during prostate surgery, reducing the need for follow-up treatments.
What could go wrong
This is an early feasibility study focused on measuring electrical signals, not yet proven to improve patient outcomes. The device may not reliably distinguish cancerous from healthy tissue.
