First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested a new way of giving electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for severe depression. The goal was to see if a different electrode placement on the head could reduce memory loss while still effectively treating depression. 156 adults with severe depression took part, receiving either the standard or the new ECT placement over about 4 weeks, followed by 24 weeks of follow-up. The study compared how well each type worked and how it affected memory.
