Which graft is best for women? new trial tests vein vs artery in bypass surgery
NCT ID NCT06179329
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is for women under 75 who need heart bypass surgery for three blocked arteries. It compares two types of grafts for the second most important artery: a leg vein harvested with a special 'no-touch' technique versus a wrist artery. The goal is to see which graft stays open longer, helping doctors choose the best option for women.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this trial could show that the no-touch saphenous vein technique is a better option than the radial artery for the second graft in women, potentially improving long-term outcomes after bypass surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small trial (150 women) and only looks at graft patency at one year. Results may not apply to all women or to longer timeframes, and there are standard surgical risks like infection or heart attack.
