Can a depression drug block the trip but keep the relief? new study investigates
NCT ID NCT07210112
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 30 times
Summary
This study tests whether combining psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) with the antidepressant trazodone can reduce depression symptoms in people who haven't gotten better with other treatments. The key question is whether blocking the psychedelic 'trip' with trazodone still allows the mood benefits to occur. About 112 adults with treatment-resistant depression will receive either psilocybin alone, psilocybin plus a low or high dose of trazodone, or a placebo, and their depression scores will be tracked for three months.
