New radiation battle: protons vs. photons to protect hearts in breast cancer

NCT ID NCT05912231

Summary

This study aims to see if proton beam radiation causes less heart damage than traditional photon radiation for people with left-sided breast cancer. Researchers will randomly assign 60 participants to receive either proton or photon radiation and use heart MRI scans to measure scarring. The goal is to determine which treatment better protects heart tissue while treating the cancer.
