New vaccine combo aims to supercharge immune attack on prostate cancer
NCT ID NCT04989946
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether adding a DNA vaccine (pTVG-AR) and immune checkpoint blockers (nivolumab or cemiplimab) to standard hormone therapy can improve outcomes for men with newly diagnosed, high-risk prostate cancer. About 60 participants will receive different combinations before having their prostate removed. The main goals are to see if the cancer completely disappears in the removed tissue and to check for side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
pTVG-AR (DNA vaccine), nivolumab, cemiplimab, degarelix
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a new combination therapy that helps the immune system better attack prostate cancer cells, potentially reducing the risk of cancer returning after surgery.
What could go wrong
This is an early-phase trial with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The vaccine and immune drugs can cause side effects like fatigue, infusion reactions, or immune-related inflammation.
