Can smarter screening cut prostate cancer deaths?
NCT ID NCT07155759
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study follows 7,500 men aged 50-74 to see which prostate cancer screening method works best over time. Some men were invited for a standard PSA test, while others had a newer approach using PSA plus a biomarker test and MRI. Researchers will track prostate cancer deaths, diagnoses, and healthcare use through registries to find out if the advanced screening saves more lives.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that combining PSA with biomarkers and MRI is a better way to screen for prostate cancer, potentially reducing unnecessary biopsies and deaths.
What could go wrong
This is an observational follow-up study, not a new treatment. Results depend on registry data, which may have limitations, and the screening approach may not reduce mortality as hoped.
