Tiny study tests waiting game for prostate cancer return

NCT ID NCT05008900

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looked at men whose prostate cancer came back after surgery, shown by a small rise in PSA. It compared giving radiation right away versus waiting and doing another special scan when PSA rose higher. Only 4 men took part, so the main goal was to see if such a study is even possible, not to prove which approach is better.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Salvage radiotherapy

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that waiting for a repeat scan before treating is safe and effective, potentially sparing some men from unnecessary radiation.

What could go wrong

This is a very small feasibility study with only 4 participants, so results may not apply widely. The approach may not control cancer as well as immediate treatment.
