Could a 2-Week radiation blast be as good as 4 weeks for recurrent prostate cancer?
NCT ID NCT04422132
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether giving radiation in just 5 treatments over 2 weeks is as safe and effective as the standard 20 treatments over 4 weeks for men whose prostate cancer has come back after surgery. The 134 participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two schedules. The main goal is to compare bowel and urinary side effects two years after treatment, while also tracking cancer progression and quality of life.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Radiation therapy
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a shorter 2-week radiation course is as safe and effective as the standard 4-week course, reducing treatment burden for patients.
What could go wrong
This is a phase 2 trial with only 134 participants, so results are preliminary. The shorter course might cause different side effects or be less effective at controlling cancer long-term.
