Tiny study aims to teach computers to spot prostate cancer

NCT ID NCT02618200

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This completed study collected MRI and 3D ultrasound images from 2 men with prostate cancer who had their prostate removed. The goal was to create a database that could later be used to train a computer system to detect cancer without needing a biopsy. This is a very early step in developing a new diagnostic tool.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this database could help researchers build a computer system that better detects prostate cancer without needing a biopsy.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early-stage study with only 2 participants. It only created the database; the actual diagnostic system has not been built or tested yet.
