New study aims to find the best way to biopsy for prostate cancer
NCT ID NCT07460843
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two prostate biopsy techniques to see which one better detects clinically significant prostate cancer. About 592 men with a suspicious MRI lesion will be randomly assigned to receive either targeted plus perilesional biopsy or targeted plus systematic biopsy. The goal is to find a method that accurately diagnoses important cancers while reducing unnecessary sampling.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
biopsy procedure
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors choose the most accurate and less invasive biopsy method for diagnosing significant prostate cancer.
What could go wrong
This is a diagnostic study, not a treatment trial. Results may not apply to all patients or settings, and the best method may still miss some cancers.
