Bee glue vs. toothache: could propolis replace standard pulpotomy care?
NCT ID NCT06679075
First seen Aug 11, 2026 · Last updated Aug 12, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether propolis, a natural resin from bees, can control bleeding during a tooth-saving procedure called full pulpotomy for adults with painful, inflamed molars. Participants are randomly assigned to receive propolis or the standard sodium hypochlorite as a hemostatic agent, along with one of two dressing materials. The study measures bleeding time, post-operative pain, and clinical and radiographic success at 1, 3, and 6 months to see if propolis is a viable alternative.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Propolis (a natural resin) used as a hemostatic agent during full pulpotomy, compared with sodium hypochlorite; two dressing materials (bioceramic putty and MTA) are also compared.
- What this could lead to
- If propolis works as well as standard hemostatic agents, it could offer a natural, low-cost option for saving painful molars and avoiding root canal treatment.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial (60 participants) with short follow-up (6 months). Propolis may not control bleeding as effectively, and results may not apply to all patients or teeth.
