First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether giving people free fruits and vegetables (a produce prescription) along with culturally tailored cooking classes can improve their nutrition and help manage chronic conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure. Thirty adults who already take medication for such conditions will participate for 12 months. Researchers will measure changes in food security, diet quality, and blood sugar levels.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance

What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that providing free fruits and vegetables along with cooking education helps people better manage chronic conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure.
What could go wrong
This is a very small feasibility study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It also relies on people sticking with the program, which can be challenging.
