Doctors handing out screening kits could prevent colon cancer
NCT ID NCT06664567
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether having general practitioners (GPs) proactively give colorectal cancer screening kits to eligible patients (ages 50-74) increases screening rates compared to the usual practice of sending an invitation letter. Over 26,000 participants will be involved. The goal is to see if a simple change in how screening is offered can catch more cancers early.

What this could lead to
If this works, it could show that a simple change in how doctors offer screening can catch more colorectal cancers early, potentially saving lives.
What could go wrong
This is a large trial, but it only measures participation rates, not actual cancer outcomes. The approach may not work in other regions or healthcare systems.
