Could a 15-minute dip in your own blood save your cornea transplant?
NCT ID NCT06261346
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether briefly soaking a donor cornea in a solution made from the patient's own blood (PRGF) before transplant surgery can reduce the loss of important cells after the operation. About 100 people with Fuchs' endothelial dystrophy or corneal swelling will take part. The goal is to see if this simple, one-time step helps the graft stay healthy longer.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Plasma Rich in Growth Factors (PRGF)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could improve graft survival and reduce the need for repeat corneal transplants.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study with no control group, so results may not be conclusive. The procedure adds only 15 minutes, but benefits are uncertain.
