New study tests which spot on the shoulder nerve best eases chronic pain

NCT ID NCT07502209

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study compares two methods of pulsed radiofrequency treatment for the suprascapular nerve in people with chronic shoulder pain from rotator cuff problems. Thirty-two adults aged 40 to 80 will be randomly assigned to receive the treatment at either the suprascapular notch or a midpoint approach. Researchers will measure pain, shoulder function, muscle strength, and quality of life over three months to see which approach works better.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
pulsed radiofrequency treatment
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could show which approach (notch or midpoint) works better for reducing pain and improving shoulder function in people with chronic shoulder pain.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 32 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The treatment is for symptom relief, not a cure, and benefits may be modest or temporary.
