Targeted eccentric exercise may rebuild shoulder function — a trial puts it to the test
NCT ID NCT07727941
First seen Jul 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 28, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial investigates whether eccentric isokinetic exercise — a type of controlled, lengthening muscle contraction performed on a special machine — can reduce pain and improve shoulder function in people with rotator cuff tendinopathy. Fifty adults aged 20 to 50 with confirmed tendinopathy will either do this machine-based exercise plus a standard home program, or the home program alone. Researchers will measure changes in pain, shoulder function, and muscle structure using ultrasound.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- eccentric isokinetic exercise on a Humac Norm II device
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this could offer a targeted exercise approach to ease shoulder pain and improve function without surgery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 50 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The exercise program requires special equipment, limiting accessibility.
