Can a shorter steroid course save preemie lungs?

NCT ID NCT07052201

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests two different ways of giving the steroid dexamethasone to very premature babies (born before 30 weeks) who have been on a breathing machine for at least two weeks. The goal is to see which treatment better prevents a serious lung condition called bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) or death. About 970 babies will be randomly assigned to either a 10-day lower-dose regimen or a 7-day higher-dose regimen, and researchers will track their breathing progress and long-term development.
