Can a shot every 12 weeks stop Alzheimer's before it starts?
NCT ID NCT06647498
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 28, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests a drug called remternetug in people who have a strong genetic risk for Alzheimer's but do not yet have symptoms. The goal is to see if the drug can prevent or slow the buildup of harmful proteins in the brain. About 280 participants will receive either the drug or a placebo every 12 weeks for two years.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- remternetug (a drug given as a shot every 12 weeks)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a way to prevent or delay Alzheimer's disease in people who are genetically destined to get it.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-to-mid-stage trial with only 280 participants. The drug may not slow the disease, and side effects from anti-amyloid treatments can include brain swelling or bleeding.
