Simple head tilt during endoscopy may prevent dangerous oxygen drops
NCT ID NCT07673042
First seen Jun 29, 2026 · Last updated Jun 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial investigates whether tilting the head up 30 degrees during preoxygenation and the exam itself can lower the chance of low oxygen levels during painless gastrointestinal endoscopy. About 208 adults aged 18–75 with a BMI up to 35 will be randomly assigned to one of four position combinations. The main goal is to see which position best prevents oxygen levels from dropping below 90% for more than 10 seconds.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a simple, low-cost way to reduce dangerous drops in oxygen levels during painless endoscopy.
What could go wrong
This is a single-center trial with 208 participants, so results may not apply to all patients or settings. The intervention is a positioning change, not a drug, so the potential impact is modest.
