New oxygen method may keep patients safer during heart surgery

NCT ID NCT07432607

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a special high-flow nasal oxygen device works better than a standard face mask to prevent dangerously low oxygen levels during a heart procedure called a pericardial window. The procedure drains fluid around the heart and is done while the patient is awake but relaxed. About 60 adults will take part, and researchers will measure oxygen levels, heart rate, and comfort.
