New oxygen technique may reduce breathing problems during heart surgery

NCT ID NCT07432607

First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study tests whether a special high-flow nasal oxygen device works better than a standard face mask to prevent low oxygen levels during a keyhole surgery that drains fluid from around the heart. About 60 adults having this surgery under sedation will be randomly assigned to one of the two oxygen methods. The goal is to see which approach keeps oxygen levels safer and improves patient comfort during the procedure.
