Anemia type may predict surgery danger
NCT ID NCT06499974
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is observing 1000 adults having moderate- to high-risk surgery to see if the type and severity of anemia they have before surgery affects their risk of complications like heart injury, kidney injury, or stroke. Researchers will compare patients with iron-deficiency anemia, anemia of chronic disease, or combined anemia, and also compare them to patients without anemia. The goal is to better understand which patients are at highest risk so doctors can take steps to prevent problems.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors better predict and prevent serious complications in anemic patients undergoing surgery.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It can show links but not prove cause and effect. Results may not apply to all surgery types.
