5-Day radiation before sarcoma surgery could spare healthy tissue
NCT ID NCT06905132
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a 5-day course of radiation given before surgery for soft tissue sarcoma in the arms, legs, or trunk. The goal is to see if this shorter treatment is safe and effective at controlling the cancer while preserving more healthy tissue. About 40 adults will receive radiation daily for a week, followed by standard surgery 2-6 weeks later. Researchers will monitor wound healing and tumor response.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Hypofractionated radiation therapy (a shorter, higher-dose radiation course over 5 days)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could offer a more convenient and less disruptive treatment option for soft tissue sarcoma patients, potentially reducing side effects and preserving healthy tissue.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase trial with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The shorter radiation course may not be as effective as standard treatment and could still cause wound complications or other side effects.
