First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 33 times

Summary

This study tests whether a natural hormone called pregnenolone can improve depression and brain function in people living with HIV. About 120 adults with HIV and depression will take either pregnenolone or a placebo pill for several weeks, while continuing their usual antidepressant medications. Researchers will use brain scans and questionnaires to see if the hormone reduces inflammation and depressive symptoms.
