First seen Jan 08, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tested whether adding radiation therapy to standard chemotherapy before surgery could improve outcomes for people with locally advanced stomach or gastroesophageal junction cancer. About 200 adults with operable stage IIB to IIIC cancer were randomly assigned to receive either chemotherapy alone or chemotherapy plus radiation before surgery, followed by surgery and more chemotherapy. The main goal was to see if the combination therapy extended the time patients lived without the cancer returning.
