Blood test after delivery could prevent deadly preeclampsia
NCT ID NCT07185204
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study in Nepal tests whether a blood test before delivery can predict which women will develop dangerous high blood pressure after giving birth. Women at high risk will receive a care bundle including remote blood pressure monitoring, education, and medication to manage their condition early. The goal is to see if this approach is feasible and reduces the need for emergency care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
nifedipine ER (blood pressure medication)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a simple, scalable way to catch and treat postpartum preeclampsia early, reducing serious complications.
What could go wrong
This is a very small pilot study (60 people) focused on feasibility, not proof of effectiveness. The results may not apply to other settings.
