Lettuce extract and exercise: a new recipe for healthy aging?
NCT ID NCT07441343
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study tests whether taking a daily polyphenol supplement (from red leaf lettuce) alongside a 12-week exercise program can improve physical performance in adults over 60. The main goal is to see if the study is feasible—can people stick with it? Researchers will also measure strength, power, and aerobic capacity. The supplement is thought to reduce inflammation and help muscles recover better from exercise.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Polyphenol-rich extract from red leaf lettuce (Phyto-P)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple supplement strategy to boost the benefits of exercise for older adults, helping maintain strength and independence.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early feasibility study with only 40 participants. It is designed to test whether the study procedures work, not to prove effectiveness. Results may not apply to all older adults.
