Ultrasound could help heart failure patients go home sooner
NCT ID NCT06965712
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether using a bedside ultrasound (POCUS) to check fluid levels can help doctors treat heart failure patients more effectively. 66 adults hospitalized with decompensated heart failure will be randomly assigned to get either standard care or ultrasound-guided care. The goal is to see if ultrasound guidance can shorten hospital stays and reduce the chance of being readmitted within 30 days.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) device
What this could lead to
If it works, this could mean shorter hospital stays and fewer readmissions for heart failure patients by using a simple bedside ultrasound to guide treatment.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 66 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The ultrasound is just a guide—it may not actually change outcomes.
