Can a blood injection reboot ovaries? small trial tests PRP for fertility
NCT ID NCT04381299
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether injecting a woman's own platelet-rich plasma (PRP) into the ovary can help restore function in women with premature ovarian insufficiency (early menopause). 35 women under 40 will receive PRP in one ovary and a saline placebo in the other. The main goal is to see if new follicles grow and produce estrogen within 12 weeks. This is an early, small trial, so results are uncertain.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
autologous platelet rich plasma
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a way to restore ovarian function and improve fertility chances for women with premature ovarian failure.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early trial with only 35 participants. The treatment may not work, and any benefit could be due to the placebo effect from the saline injection.
