Scientists seek best dose of Last-Resort antibiotics for superbug infections
NCT ID NCT06717594
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This observational study is looking at how two antibiotics, ceftazidime/avibactam and fosfomycin, work in the body to treat infections caused by carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE), a type of superbug. Researchers will monitor 60 adult patients to see if the drug levels in their blood reach targets that effectively kill the bacteria. The goal is to find the right dosing to improve treatment for these difficult infections.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- ceftazidime/avibactam and fosfomycin
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this study could help doctors determine the most effective dosing of these antibiotics for treating hard-to-kill CRE infections.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study, not a controlled trial, so it cannot prove cause and effect. The small size (60 participants) and focus on specific bacteria may limit how widely the results apply.
