New study aims to sharpen genetic testing for metastatic breast cancer
NCT ID NCT06706570
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study enrolls 100 people with metastatic, hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer to compare different genetic testing methods for detecting PIK3CA mutations. Researchers will check how well newer DNA sequencing techniques match up with standard PCR tests. The goal is to find the most reliable way to identify patients who might benefit from targeted therapies.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to more accurate and faster genetic testing for breast cancer, helping doctors choose the right targeted therapy for each patient.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study focused on comparing diagnostic methods, not testing a new treatment. It may not directly improve patient outcomes or survival.
