New CT scanner aims to spot hidden liver tumors better
NCT ID NCT06753903
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a new type of CT scanner (photon-counting CT) can detect liver metastases from colorectal cancer as well as MRI does. About 100 adults with colorectal cancer will get both scans, and researchers will compare the results. If the new CT works well, it could provide a faster, lower-radiation option for finding these tumors.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Photon-counting detector computed tomography (PCD-CT) scan
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a faster, lower-radiation way to spot liver metastases, helping doctors plan surgery or treatment more accurately.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage diagnostic study with only 100 participants. The new CT may not prove as accurate as MRI, especially for very small lesions.
