Can a phone call ease the trauma of a terminal cancer diagnosis?

NCT ID NCT03652298

Summary

This study tested a brief phone-based therapy to help patients and their partners cope with the emotional trauma of receiving news that their cancer is advanced and incurable. The therapy combined deep breathing exercises with a technique to help people structure their traumatic memories. Researchers compared this approach to standard supportive listening to see if it better reduced PTSD symptoms, improved quality of life, and even affected biological markers like inflammation.
