Heart shield after COVID: new trial tests exercise and meds to stop heart failure
NCT ID NCT04983823
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is testing whether a special heart-care plan, including better medication and exercise, can prevent heart failure in people over 50 who had COVID-19. Researchers will measure changes in exercise capacity and watch for new heart failure symptoms. The trial aims to enroll 820 participants.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Cardiac COVID Disease Management Plan (CC-DMP) including optimal medication and exercise
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple, low-cost strategy to prevent heart failure in older adults who had COVID-19.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively early feasibility study, not a large Phase 3 trial. The intervention combines medication and exercise, so it's hard to know which part helps. Results may not apply to everyone.
