New study tests which treatment is best for pelvic bone cancers

NCT ID NCT05033288

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares three treatments for pelvic sarcomas (cancers in the pelvic bone): carbon ion therapy, surgery (often with radiation), and proton therapy alone. Researchers want to see which approach gives patients better quality of life and controls the cancer best. About 72 people aged 15 and older with newly diagnosed pelvic sarcomas that haven't spread will take part. The goal is to find out if carbon ion therapy offers advantages over the other options.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

carbon ion therapy, surgery, proton therapy

What this could lead to

If carbon ion therapy works better, it could offer a less invasive treatment option with fewer side effects for people with pelvic sarcomas.

What could go wrong

This is a relatively small study (72 people) comparing treatments that are already in use, so it may not lead to a major breakthrough. Results depend on which treatment each patient receives, and side effects from radiation or surgery are still possible.
