Standing and nerve zaps may help bladder control after spinal injury

NCT ID NCT07429305

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This small study tests whether combining standing therapy with mild electrical stimulation of a nerve in the leg can improve pelvic floor muscle function in adults with chronic spinal cord injury. Twelve participants will undergo 12 weeks of treatment, three times per week. Researchers will measure reflex responses and ask about bladder symptoms and quality of life before and after the program.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

tibial nerve stimulation

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward a new therapy to improve bladder and pelvic floor function after spinal cord injury.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early feasibility study with only 12 participants, so results may not apply widely. The intervention is non-invasive and low-risk, but benefits are uncertain.
