One-Shot gene therapy could ease knee arthritis pain for years
NCT ID NCT06884865
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This Phase 2 trial tests a single injection of a gene therapy called PCRX-201 in 135 adults aged 45–80 with painful knee osteoarthritis. Participants receive one of two doses or a placebo, then are monitored for safety and pain relief over 5 years. The goal is to see if the injection is safe and can reduce knee pain and improve joint function.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Enekinragene inzadenovec (PCRX-201) injection
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a new, long-lasting treatment option for knee osteoarthritis pain that may reduce the need for frequent injections or surgery.
What could go wrong
This is an early Phase 2 trial with only 135 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The treatment is a gene therapy, and long-term safety and effectiveness are still unknown.
