First seen Aug 03, 2026 · Last updated Aug 04, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This trial compares two surgical techniques for total knee replacement—the subvastus approach and the medial parapatellar approach—to see which one leads to better recovery and function. The study will enroll 84 people with severe knee osteoarthritis who need a knee replacement. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two procedures and followed for two years to measure muscle strength, pain, mobility, and quality of life.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Two surgical procedures for total knee replacement: the subvastus approach and the medial parapatellar approach
What this could lead to
If one approach proves better, it could lead to faster recovery, less pain, and improved long-term function for people undergoing knee replacement surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small study, and results may not apply to all patients. Surgery carries risks like infection, blood clots, and nerve damage, and the benefits of one approach over the other may be modest.
