Rapid test may speed up right antibiotics for pneumonia in vulnerable ICU patients
NCT ID NCT05405491
First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This study tests whether a rapid PCR test can help doctors choose the right antibiotics sooner for immunocompromised patients in the ICU who have pneumonia. Standard lab tests take days, so patients often get broad-spectrum antibiotics that may not be ideal. The goal is to see if the PCR test leads to more targeted antibiotic use within 24 hours. About 31 adults with weak immune systems and pneumonia on ventilators are taking part.
