New CT scanner could rival MRI for rectal cancer staging

NCT ID NCT06965166

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study is testing whether a new type of CT scanner, called photon-counting detector CT (PCD-CT), can determine how far rectal cancer has grown as accurately as MRI. About 200 adults with rectal cancer will get both a standard MRI and the new CT scan, and doctors will compare the images. If PCD-CT works as well or better, it could offer a faster or more accessible option for staging the disease.
