New knee implant aims to ease arthritis without cutting bone

NCT ID NCT06423300

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests a new device called the LIFT Implant for people with kneecap arthritis. The implant lifts the kneecap tendon to reduce pressure on worn-out cartilage. Researchers will compare it to a standard surgery that moves a piece of shinbone. 245 adults aged 22 to 65 with moderate to severe knee pain will be followed for 2 years to see if the implant works as well or better.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
LIFT Implant (a device that lifts the kneecap tendon to reduce pressure on damaged cartilage)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a less invasive surgery option for people with kneecap arthritis, with faster recovery and fewer complications than current bone-cutting procedures.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage device study with no prior large-scale results. The implant could loosen, break, or fail to relieve pain, and participants may still need further surgery.
