Colonoscopy could spot Parkinson's before symptoms worsen

NCT ID NCT07204652

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether tissue samples taken during a routine colonoscopy can find signs of Parkinson's disease. Researchers look for a protein called alpha-synuclein in the colon of people already diagnosed with Parkinson's. If successful, this could lead to earlier detection and treatment. The study involves 20 adults aged 40 to 99 who are scheduled for a colonoscopy.
